Starting Photography As A Hobby

Photography is an absolutely wonderful hobby to pick up and learn. When you see the quality of the photos that the professionals release, it is awe-inspiring enough to give you motivation to keep striving for it in your own portfolio. The only way you are really going to master the art is when you have experience on several types of equipment and you know how to fully use their capabilities.

Most people with start with a digital point-and-shoot. This will teach them the basics of composition, lighting, and subject. From these building blocks you can start diversifying your shots. Once you get a handle on what angles, subjects, and locations to shoot and how to properly capture them you can start looking into upgrading your camera.

That is why a beginner should always look online for the best SLR cameras and other photography equipment. Online you not only get good deals, you get reviews of the products and descriptions of their features. You can look on forums and get advice from fellow enthusiasts and maybe pick up a few tips as to what brands and models to look for (or which ones to avoid).

The camera is one tool you must absolutely make a researched effort to find. You should find one that works with the kind of image-capture you want to be involved in. The single lens reflex cameras are best for subjects that need a fast shutter-capture, for example sports, nature, time-lapses, etc.

While there is a pretty big competition between digital and SLR cameras, you really need an SLR to take your photography to a new level. They may be bulkier but this is because they feature better sensors for light and motion. They tend to have a strong image quality and a fast response time. You composure the picture through the viewfinder and you have options for different types of lenses and external flashes. This means more versatility and control over the final product. That and the image capturing features are customizable to a much grander variety of degrees.

Basically as a beginner you need to play around with these settings until you get a handle. Buy a few books on photography and start learning the lingo. The better you understand how the cameras work, the more controlled you will be and the more effective the outcome of the images you capture. The sooner you begin, the less time you miss to capture some amazing events.

Several Garden Wedding Reception Photography Ideas

A reception is a great place to catch people interacting with each other candidly. Garden wedding reception photography is doubly interesting and inspired because of the location of the reception. While indoor receptions in staid rooms and restaurants can be a lot of fun, garden receptions can be very natural.

Garden reception wedding photography can be very natural (what with the abundance of natural light) and appear very comfortable and easy. Wedding photography can be an inspiration for many photographers since wedding usually has beautiful, sentimental moments.

Daytime Reception

Garden wedding reception photography usually comes out very well in natural day light. There is also a lot of possible shots for use in garden wedding reception photography. The photographer can usually surmise what kind of light brings out the natural colors and tones of the bride and groom, as well as those of the members of the wedding entourage. Garden wedding reception photography need not be tricky especially if there is much natural light that the photographer can work with.

The backgrounds of the garden wedding reception photography session are almost always green or colorful due to the myriads of flowers available for the garden wedding reception. Photographers can take portrait shots of the newly weds with a hazy background of the greenery or the colorful flowers.

A suggestion for garden wedding reception photography is to have either the bride or groom (or both) pose among the many flowers or plants that are sure to be abundant in an outdoor reception area. Even a well manicured lawn can appear beautiful if the photographer is inspired enough to take pictures of a lot of angles.

Nighttime Reception

Garden wedding reception photography can be a challenged when the reception is held at night. There is no natural light that the photographer can take advantage of and there is a lot of shadows and artificial light to contend with while taking pictures.

Tamron 28-75 Review – The Sharpest Zoom Lens For Cropped Sensor Dslr

If you own a cropped sensor DSLR and are in the market for a great zoom lens, then the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is an excellent buy.

I tested this lens on both the APS-C sensor and full frame sensor cameras. I used the Nikon mount, though Tamron made the Sony, Pentax, and Canon mounts as well. It is good to see Tamron is making this excellent lens for so many mounts.

Originally designed for a full frame sensor camera, the focal length is not very comfortable on an APS-C (cropped) sensor DSLR.

The 28mm wide focal length is not wide enough when used on a cropped sensor DSLR camera. The 28mm focal length will become 42mm focal length in terms of the full frame equivalent.

However, the image quality is much better in the cropped censor camera than the full frame equivalent. This is because the cropped sensor camera can suppress the vignetting and chromatic aberration on this lens.

If you use an APS-C DSLR and require a wider angle and more versatile focal length, you are better off buying the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC lens.

With the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, I was able to get extremely sharp images, perhaps the best among all Tamron zoom lenses, when used in conjunction with an APS-C camera.

Distortion, chromatic aberration, and vignetting are all minimal to negligible. If you feel that you can adjust to the awkward zoom range, you’ll get yourself a great zoom lens for your cropped sensor camera.

I was able to take some really sharp group photos and shoot some interesting still life with this lens. The out of focus blur (also known as bokeh) is simply excellent at the widest aperture of f/2.8.

For those using full frame DSLRs, the lens does not perform as well compared when used in conjunction with a cropped sensor camera.

All the distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration will start to show up in the corner. This of course can be remedied by using the proper post processing techniques.

In conclusion for this Tamron 28-75 review, this lens is an excellent professional lens at a bargain price.

If you are using a cropped sensor camera and simply want to get sharp, professional quality images out of your camera without having to spend a lot of money, then this is the lens to go after.

Buying A New Dslr Camera For Beginners – Excellent Choices Abound

Buying a new camera these days is an exciting experience, especially if it is a DSLR camera for beginners. The reason it is so exciting is because of the wide variety of models you can choose from. Every manufacturer has a mid-range DSLR camera model that will fit the bill for beginners.

Exactly what would one look for in a camera that is specifically for first time digital SLR buyers? Well, with the improvements over the years, that is a tough question. So much functionality has been added, and, quite honestly, that is what makes this such an exciting time to be getting into photography. It is difficult to make the wrong choice. In the old days of film photography, you had to know what the settings were and how to use them before you started getting decent photos. Not so any more! You can take amazing pictures right out of the box.

Cheap DSLR cameras actually compete with the pro models in image quality, and they are especially easy to use for first time buyers. Some of the features that separate cheap from pro are quality of construction, continuous shooting rate, added setting dials, LCD panel on top in addition to the rear LCD, and sensor size (this is not the megapixels, but the actual physical size of the sensor).

When you get your new camera, you will be surprised at how easy it is to get great photos. You can set your dial on Auto and start shooting. The intelligent software will do all the dirty work for you. It will decide what settings will create the best looking photo for the light that is available.

Want to get more “professional” by using some of those dials and buttons? No problem. Almost every DSLR camera for beginners now has some kind of feature guide that lets you know what the camera will do with the setting you just selected. Some models have a very detailed description that gives you hints. For instance, it will let you know that if you set the Aperture value to a lower number, the background will be blurry. This is wonderful news for those who want to learn while taking pictures instead of taking time to read a dry, boring manual.

Another great benefit of the newer models is that they all now have an excellent video component. If you want to tape your child’s sporting event or recital, you don’t have to haul two separate photography bags, one for still photos and one for video. You can do it all with one.

All this is great news, but the best part about owning a mid-range DSLR camera for beginners is being able to switch lenses. The lens is just as important as the unit it is attached to, and having several lenses for different photography situations makes owning one of these awesome units well worth the price.

Using Dslr Cameras For Concert Photographs

We all love the rush of an amazing concert, whether we’re dancing along to the beat or moshing in the pit. But many of us like to capture the moment, quite literally, and record our experience. However, it’s hard to get decent photographs with compact digital cameras. Dark lighting, flashing lights, and constantly moving musicians make it difficult to photograph. If you’re willing to lug around the expensive cameras and right interchangeable lenses, you can take some pretty awesome shots.

First you’ll need the right equipment. The standard lens to use is a 70-200mm f/2.8 . This will be fast enough to take shots and has a great telephoto range. If you’re a beginner, you can get away with a 50mm or an 85mm, but you’ll have to make up for distance by moving around a lot to get closer. A wide angle lens really isn’t necessary, unless you’re looking for a picture of the entire band and the crowd.

The stage will always be dim so you need to compensate for that light. You should be shooting in a high ISO and a wide aperture. It’s good to stay in the ISO range of 1600 to 3200 and not dip below an f/5-6. However, be aware that these settings will create a small depth-of-field range and higher noise levels. The key is to be flexible and quick when taking your pictures. It’s also important to increase your burst rate. The more frames you can shoot per second, the better because lights will be flashing and musicians will be moving.

Now that you understand some of the settings, how can you get the best possible pictures with your DSLR cameras? It’s not all about technicality. First and foremost, you must watch the performers. Notice how they like to move on stage, where their favorite places to stand are, what are their signature moves and facial expressions. If you can photograph these quirks, it will make for a beautiful shot. Once you learn their moves, anticipate them. Be ready to compose the picture when the guitarist leans back for his guitar solo.

Don’t just focus on the people, compose pictures around instruments, props, and lighting. The line of a guitar looks best at certain angles. Take notice if your musicians are right or left-handed so you can choose which angle is best. Be on the look out for clutter though. The stage is filled with speakers, cables, mic stands, and any other electronics to make the show work. Try not to get these objects in the shot and never position yourself directly in front of a singer unless you want a mic in front of his mouth. Lastly, be nice to them and you’ll likely get your own mini performance as the musician looks right at your DSLR cameras lens.

Independent Media School And Photography Collage To Be Included In Kuwait University

The State of Kuwait, a sovereign Arab nation and one of the worlds fastest growing economies, is planning to have media school offered in the University of Kuwait. These plans were presented to the schools council of departments. The council then recommended conducting more research and studies on the subject before approving the independent media school plan. The media school would offer programs that are found in media studies collages, sound engineering collages, photography colleges, and journalism collages found in most of the top universities around the globe. Most of the students at the university see this as an improvement on the educational institution.

When it comes to media, Kuwait has very transparent media practices. Journalists who are based in Kuwaiti enjoy a greater freedom with their work than their regional counterparts compared to other Arab countries. The state was ranked with the number one spot by the Reporters without Borders of the Middle East and the Arab League freedom of press index in 2007. This is no wonder why they would put up a media school at one of the states best universities. Students who would take programs and courses in this school are assured freedom of press which is vital. The school will provide future journalist, photographers, and other media practitioners all the knowledge and tools they need to deliver fair and just news and opinions.

Most photography colleges are found in the United States and Europe. However, not a lot of aspiring students can afford to go to another country to study. Its important the future journalism photographers know what they are up against. Rowan Al Bahwah, one of the universitys faculties said that In Kuwait, the state is suffering from having too little media influence. Schools should take benefit of potentials the young students have. Media has very strong and effective influence with the people and the state, because of this, the university should provide programs and trainings in the area. The culture and society of the state desperately needs well trained and qualified young Kuwaitis to go to the fields and provide news and current events.

One of the collages under most media schools is the photography colleges. This collage will not only teach you the importance of documentation by the use of photography, but will let you understand it as an art. Becoming a professional photographer needs a lot of training and hands on experience, by attending photography classes and programs, you a guided by your instructors to the right path. Since the school also teaches you that photography is also a science, you get the chance to work with specialized and professional tool for photography.
